VGM collaborated with Variety – the Children’s Charity and vendor-partner EZ-ACCESS during VGM’s 2019 Heartland Conference to donate a modular Pathway 3G ramp to a family residing near VGM’s corporate headquarters in Waterloo, Iowa.

Janae (Ja-nay) Lee, 25, was born with mental disabilities. In 2011, a severe illness led to her becoming semi-dependent to using a wheelchair. She loves to be out in the community, especially visiting the Waterloo amphitheater and shopping at Walmart. During the summer, she enjoys going outside to swing with her mom, Carla Ingersoll. The EZ-ACCESS ramp will provide Janae safe access to visit her favorite spots and be outside with her family.

Janae Lee (seated) and her mother, Carla Ingersoll, admire the handiwork of Tim Combs (left) from LAH member Americans for Independent Living and LAH vice president, Jim Greatorex, once they’ve completed installing the EZ-ACCESS Pathway 3G ramp at the Ingersoll home.

EZ-ACCESS has donated ramps in each of the past four years at Heartland.

“We’ve been part of the VGM community for years and are proud to once again donate the Pathway 3G ramp to help the Ingersoll family have safer access to their home,” said Scott Crosswhite, national vice president of sales for EZ-ACCESS. “We hope that the new ramp will provide them, in particular Janae Lee, with new opportunities to live life to the fullest.”

VGM and Variety – the Children’s Charity also collaborated with VGM vendor-partners Rifton and International Biophysics Corp. to donate four adaptive tricycles and a high-frequency chest wall oscillation (HFCWO) therapy vest to other families in the Waterloo area during the conference.

“We’re always excited to orchestrate these impactful moments between our membership community and the community VGM calls home,” said Scott Owen, senior vice president of contracting for VGM. “Every recipient will sincerely have a better life thanks to our friends at Rifton, AffloVest, EZ-ACCESS, and Variety. Helping those in need live more independently is precisely what VGM, our partners, and all industry stakeholders strive to achieve on a daily basis.”

Variety – the Children’s Charity of Iowa administered the vetting process to select the recipients of the adaptive tricycles. The children, ranging in ages from 5 to 11, have varying special needs that prevent them from living independently.

The products donated by VGM and its vendor-partners are valued at approximately $30,000.
