Live at Home Heartland Recap

Home Blog Live at Home Heartland Recap

By Jim Greatorex

We had another excellent Heartland Conference with a best-ever turnout for VGM Live at Home members. Word is that home mods were the talk of the show!  What stood out to me the most was the collaborative spirit among our members all week long. We have an industry that, in our estimation, has reached 15-20 percent of its potential. We all need to get better together as the industry evolves. And that was exactly the atmosphere—with members and manufacturers working closely together, making new relationships, and forming bonds.

This was exemplified by four of our members sharing best practices tracks:

  • Jared Chevaux on selling high-end home remodels
  • Vern Martell on getting noticed in the accessibility market
  • Vince Pelose on utilizing your showroom to grow
  • Deon Clabby on a teamwork approach to home mods

It was topped off with a standing-room-only panel discussion with successful members Vern Martell from Safe Living Solutions, Darren Corcoran from Vets Access, Wayne Flatt from Hammer Medical, and Joe Chevaux from JTEK, along with Todd Bick from Harmar sharing successes and challenges.

In all:

Thom Disch from Handi Products, Nils Bundgaard from Rane Accessibility, Jason Williams from Best Bath, Scott Crosswhite from EZ Access, and Mark Richman from VGM HOMELINK all provided great education that the entire Heartland Conference is known for.

The social events were a big hit as well. We had a great time at the Hog Roast where the rain stopped just long enough for the fantastic fireworks display. There was a great turnout at our Live at Home community dinner at Jameson’s. And, we got to let our hair down a bit with the big party at the Giddy Up Gala. By the way, our very own Jessica Barber left as the person who rode the mechanical bull the longest!

For those who came, we hope you’ve recovered by now. And, for those who weren’t able to come, mark your calendars for next year’s Heartland: June 10-12, 2019.

I want to thank all those who came to this year’s event. Your level of engagement was what made it successful!
